Paul Kepple is the Creative Director and founder of Headcase Design, an award-winning graphic design and illustration studio based in Philadelphia that specializes in publishing, typography, and illustration. Founded in 1998, Paul and his team at Headcase have created ambitious and richly elaborate designs that immerse readers in the diverse worlds of Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, Twin Peaks, The X-Files, The Sopranos, and J.J. Abrams’s meta novel S. They’ve designed behind-the-scenes books for the hit Broadway shows Hamilton, Wicked, and Dear Evan Hansen, cinematic properties like Harry Potter and Star Wars, and art-centric biographies for music legends Elton John, Johnny Cash, Courtney Love, Eminem, and Geddy Lee of Rush.

Paul has designed books for many major publishers, including Abrams Books, Chronicle Books, Hachette, HarperCollins, Penguin, and Scholastic, and has created illustrations for Entertainment Weekly, Esquire, Fortune, GQ, The New York Times, NPR, and Time. His design and illustration work has been recognized by AIGA, American Illustration, the Art Director’s Club of New York, Communication Arts, Graphis, How, Print, and with an Eisner Award Nomination.  

Paul has been an adjunct professor at Tyler School of Art — his alma matter — for over 20 years. He teaches Publishing and Senior Thesis, and enjoys guiding and encouraging students to reach their ultimate potential, and several of his students started successful careers at Headcase Design.

Paul is currently developing Dracula: The Evidence with Beehive Books, an ambitious and elaborate endeavor which brings the epistolary novel to life by creating physical facsimiles of all the diaries, letters, newspapers, and ephemera that form the classic novel Dracula.
